After studying psychology at the University of Trier and training and studying mediation as part of the master's degree programme in Mediation and Conflict Management at the European University Viadrina, Nicole Becker specialised in conflict management, mediation (BM®, BAFM® and QVM®) and psychosocial counselling and therapy (SG®). During her 16 years of working for Dresdner Bank AG, she also gained a certified trainer qualification and advanced training in supervision.

From 2011 to 2020, she was part of the academic management of the Mediation and Conflict Management Master's degree programme and from 2009 to 2019, she was co-head of the Justice and Society core area at the Institute for Conflict Management. Since 2017, she has headed the EJF Counselling Centre Solution Path in Potsdam.

For more than 15 years, she has worked as a freelance mediator, supervisor, trainer and coach for the judiciary, companies and social organisations in the fields of mediation, conflict management, communication, psychological foundations and child protection.

From 2016 to 2021, she was an ombudswoman at Sea-Watch e.V. and from 2012 to 2015 she was chairwoman of the board of the association "zur-Förderung-von-Mediation-in-Wissenschaft-und-Praxis-e.V".
