Justice

Core Area Justice

In this core area, the Institute, headed by Prof Dr Ulla Gläßer, LL.M. (UC Berkeley), is dedicated to the topic of conflict management in public institutions and various social contexts.

The focus is on socio-political and legal strategies for the establishment of interest-oriented conflict management as well as on the area of court-connected mediation. Both the development of the legal foundations of mediation and its practical application, further training and support are crucial for its implementation and long-term establishment as an alternative conflict resolution method.

The Institute is closely linked to Ulla Gläßer's Chair for Mediation, Conflict Management and Procedural Theory at the Viadrina, which offers the master's degree programme in Mediation and Conflict Management at the Faculty of Law. As a result, research findings are directly incorporated into teaching and also fertilise work in the core areas of University & Science and International Conflicts as well as in the cross-sectional area Dialogue & Transformation.
