After studying political science, economic policy and journalism, Markus Troja specialised in Mediation and Conflict Management. His PhD, which he completed as part of DFG projects at the Institute for Public Planning at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, was dedicated to democratic-theoretical questions of mediation procedures in environmental conflicts and was awarded the Centrale für Mediation Science Prize. During a research stay at the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia, he deepened his expertise in negotiation and mediation processes.

Markus Troja works as a mediator and facilitator for conflicts in business, politics and society. He is a certified mediator (BM®) and trainer as well as a systemic coach and team developer (ISB Wiesloch). He is a member of the Executive Faculty of the Centre on the Legal Profession at Bucerius Law School, where he is responsible for mediation, leadership and negotiation.

As founder and co-editor of the specialist journal "Konfliktdynamik - Verhandeln, Vermitteln und Entscheiden in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft" (Nomos), he contributes significantly to the further development of mediation science. He is an active associate member of the Institute's projects and is committed to establishing mediative and systemic approaches to promote constructive conflict resolution in complex social and economic contexts.
